Ousmane Sonko rubbishes judgment in his case against Mame Mbaye Niang, says he will not pay CFA 200 million fine

Senegal’s main opposition leader Ousmane Sonko has today publicly pronounced his stance on the judgement delivered in his case against the Tourism minister Mame Mbaye Niang. He said he will not pay the court fine of CFA 200 million to Mame Mbaye Niang. Sonko described the judgement as rubbish.

“Where have you seen people being fined CFA 200 million for defamation? “ he asked. He added: “I will not give him (referring to Mame Mbaye Niang) a penny“.

Sonko made this revelation during a press conference he organised ahead of the next sitting (Appeal case) in his defamation case since after the judgement last month.

He disclosed that his lawyers have filed an appeal to challenge the decision of the court in this case.
