Macky Sall appoints first female General in the Senegalese Army

The Senegalese president Macky Sall has promoted Colonel Fatou Fall (a doctor in the Senegalese Army) to the rank of Brigadier General on Tuesday.

According to Seneweb, this information was announced by the Minister of Armed Forces Sidiki Kaba.

“The head of state has appointed to the rank of general doctor, Colonel Fatou Fall,” he said on the sidelines of the installation ceremony of the Chief of General Staff of the Armed Forces, Mbaye Cissé.

The minister Sidiki Kaba hailed a “historic decision”, stressing that this is the first time since independence that a woman is appointed general.

The doctor-colonel Professor Fatou Fall was hired in 1985. She graduated from the Cheikh Anta Diop University in Dakar in 1992, says her biographical note which APS has seen.

She obtained the Certificate of Special Studies in Hepatology and Gastroenterology at the University of Abidjan (Ivory Coast) in 2002.

Fatou Fall is a professor in Hepatology and Gastroenterology (Ecole du Val-de-Grâce in Paris) in 2012.
