32 suspected drug dealers arrested

Owing to the continued concerns raised by residents of Kololi and surrounding communities and in line with DLEAG’s strategic supply suppression intervention, the Agency organized a special operation aimed at addressing the open abuse and dealing in illicit drugs within Kololi and Senegambia strip. The operation covered Kololi, Sukuta, Senegambia, Manjai and other areas notorious for the dealing and open abuse of illicit drugs within the Kanifing Municipality.

So far, thirty-two (32) suspects have been taken into custody on suspicion of being engaged in drug-related activities. Twenty-nine (29) of them were apprehended by DLEAG operatives while the remaining three (3) suspects were handed over to us by personnel of The Gambia Police Police who were equally engaged in similar mopping-up operations.

Various types of prohibited and controlled drugs including cannabis sativa, cannabis resin, skunk, kush and tramadol were seized by the operatives. Some of the suspects were apprehended in bars and restaurants within the Senegambia and Kololi strip. The owners of such places were cautioned against knowingly and deliberately permitting the dealing and open abuse of drugs within their premises as this contravenes the provisions of the DCA 2003.

The operation is expected to continue over the week alongside regular routine drug supply suppression activities in addition to targeted intelligence-led operations on drug-related activities. As such, the public is encouraged to report suspicious activities to law enforcement operatives. Together, we can help make our communities, healthy, safe and drug-free.
