The leader of Bokk Gis Gis Pape Diop has resigned from his Parliamentary role effective Friday, 4th November 2022, L’Observateur newspaper reports.
Diop’s decision followed the earlier resignation of Mrs. Sokhna Dieng Mbacké, another Member of Parliament who was part of President Macky Sall’s APR party and Benno Bokk Yaakaar coalition.
According to L’Observateur newspaper, Pape Diop sent a letter to the President of the National Assembly, Amadou Mame Diop on Friday, citing “personal convenience” to justify his decision.
The newspaper says that Pape Diop “does not want to mix his name, his personality and his image with this new (legislature) which is already making news and not in a good way.
“Even during the installation (of the National Assembly), last September 12, he did not move once from his seat. He preferred to watch as a spectator to the insults, insults, invectives, and blows that some deputies gave each other.
Pape Diop will be replaced by his party’s spokesman, Moussa Diakhaté.
