Police officers Gorgi Mboob, Ndey Mbaye pass away

The death has been announced of Gorgi Mboob, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), and Superintendent Ndey B. Mbaye, on Wednesday morning, 13th December 2023.

The late Gorgi Mboob is a former head of the Anti-Crime Unit of the Gambia Police Force while the late Ndey B Mbye was head of State Guards Medic.

DCP Mboob passed away at his residence in Brufut AU Villa whilst Supt. Ndey Mbaye was pronounced dead at the country‘s main referral hospital, the Edward Francis Small Teaching Hospital (EFSTH) in Banjul on Tuesday, 12th December 2023.

The Inspector General of Police (IGP) and the Gambia Police Force have earlier shared news of the demise of their colleagues and mourned the departed souls. The GPF also extended the message across to the Commander-in-Chief of The Gambia Armed Forces cum the President of The Republic of The Gambia H.E Adama Barrow, The Vice President, H.E Muhammed BS Jallow, Ministry of Interior, Cabinet Ministers, Security Chiefs, members of the Gambia Police Force, friends, and family members.

The late DCP Gorgi Mboob was laid to rest at Ebo Town Wednesday afternoon.

However, the GPF also disclosed that funeral arrangements for Superintendent Ndey B Mbye will be on Friday, December 15, 2023.

Gorgi Mboob has been battling with illness for some time. Some time last year he was evacuated to Dakar, Senegal where he was receiving treatment. He was later flown to the UK for treatment until he came back the same year. Since then, he continued receiving treatment in The Gambia while staying at his residence at Brusubi at the AU Villa.

It would be recalled that the late DCP Gorgi Mboob was banned for five years from serving in public office following the release of the Government White Paper in May 2022 for his alleged role in human rights violations.

DCP Mboob was recommended by the Government White Paper for prosecution for his alleged role in human rights violation in the students’ demonstration of April 2000.
