BREAKING NEWS: Alleged torturer Alagie Morr Jobe arrested in Scotland

LTN has been reliably informed of the arrest of Edrisa Jobe widely known as Alagie Morr Jobe, a few days ago in Scotland. Alagie Morr was an operative of the Drug Law Enforcement Agency (DLEAG) and has also served at the notorious intelligence agency (NIA) during former president Yahya Jammeh’s regime.

Sources have hinted that investigations into Alagie Morr Jobe’s case has began and he would face justice accordingly.

“This is one of the cases of great concern for people and due to the lack of due diligence from the Gambia government in the prosecution of alleged human rights abusers in a timely manner, people are looking for other options through the international community. This is one of the reasons why the arrest is made,” a source.

“It is an indictment of the Gambia Government for their lack of due diligence on the timely implemenatation of the TRRC recommendation”.

However, another authority in The Gambia who wished to remain anonymous said: “The government’s recommendation for the reprimand of alleged torturers and human rights abuses under the former regime will be implemented fully. We are cooperating with the international community to ensure justice for the victims of rights abuses. Alagie Morr’s case is one of the many cases we have just like the earlier arrest of Sang Michael Correa an alleged jungular in the USA, Ousman Sonko, former Interior Minister who is being investigated in Switzerland, Bai Lowe in Germany and others.“

Another source (anonymous) who lives in Scotland confirms Alagie Morr’s interrogation by the authorities.

The Gambia Government White Paper on the TRRC Recommendation released on 25th May 2022, indicated that the Gambia Government has accepted the TRRC recommendation for the prosecution of Edrisa Jobe (Alagie Morr) and others for the torture of Lamin Karbou and others who were detained at the NIA.

Below is a quotation of the Gambia Government’s White Paper on the TRRC Recommendation released on 25th May 2022.

Government White Paper page 120
“420. The Government accepts the recommendation of the Commission and
notes that the prosecution of the above-named persons is currently
ongoing for the death of Solo Sandeng while in NIA custody.
Notwithstanding, the Special Prosecutor Office to be created will be tasked
to conduct a thorough investigation on the events of 14 April 2016.
(3) Prosecute Edrissa Jobe (Alagie Morr) for the torture against Lamin
Karbou and others at the NIA.
421. The Government accepts the recommendation of the Commission but notes that Edrissa Jobe (Alagie Morr) is currently out of the jurisdiction. The Government will collaborate with the relevant authorities with the aim of securing his arrest and return to The Gambia to face charges bearing in mind that torture is an international crime. Whilst the Government will welcome his arrest and prosecution internationally it also reserves the right to secure his return to The Gambia and be charged and tried domestically.

  1. Prosecute Lamin Darboe, the head of the Special Operations Unit, for
his role in all the tortures committed by Special Operations at the NIA.
  2. 422. The Government accepts the recommendation of the Commission.
    (5) Reprimand Basiru Sey, Alasan Baldeh and Gibril Kanyi for all the
tortures they committed as members of the Special Operations Unit.“

LTN’s efforts to get the official reaction of the Ministry of Justice proved futile.

BRIEF BACKGROUND OF ALAGIE MORR JOBE.

Alagie Morr Jobe alias Edrisa Jobe has been residing in The United Kingdom since 2017 after Jammeh was ousted from power. He was former president Yahya Jammeh’s buddy. Edrisa Jobe used to live in Germany and Norway before. He had a problem and was jailed in Norway for some time before being deported to the Gambia.

Former President Yahya Jammeh, knowing Alagie Morr’s arrogant attitude back in the days in Banjul, employed him at the notorious National Intelligence Agency (NIA) to preside over the torture chambers. Morr was Jammeh’s boy back in the days. He spent some years at the NIA and was later redeployed to the Drug Law Enforcement Agency of The Gambia (DLEAG). Whilst at the NIA, he was known to be brutal and a sadist who enjoyed inflicting pain and distress on his defenseless victims. Alagie Morr had a team of alleged torturers which includes the late Musa Kinteh, Ebrima Jim Drammeh, former Director of Operations at DLEAG (now suspended by Gov’t following the TRRC recommendation), Lamin Senghore nicknamed the ‘Assassin’, Omar Jammeh alias “Boy boots”, Lamin (Masanneh) Darboe, another merciless guy from Jarra Bureng and Sub-Inspector Musa Jarju known as ‘Sinkis’, a driver.

Morr was widely known at NIA as a “Bully boy”. He allegedly presided over the severe torture meted on the late Inspector Lamin ‘Star’ Badjie of the Interpol Unit, Kebba Secka, an NIA officer, Staff Sergeant Sam Kambai of the Gambia Armed Forces, Abdourahman Jammeh and a faction of MFDC rebels from Cassamance and several other Gambians and non-Gambians alike. Lamin ‘Star’ Badjie later died as a result of the alleged torture by Morr Jobe and his team.

In 2009, Alagie Morr was arrested in a fraud case involving 35,000 Euros in 500 denominations by the then Inspector General of Police Ensa Badjie known as ‘Jesus’. His alleged accomplice, a Senegalese by the name Ousman, fled. Morr was reporting to the Police on a regular basis until Ensa Badjie got fired. He allegedly used his connections with Yahya Jammeh through General Saul Badjie to kill the case and brought back his accomplice.

Edrisa Jobe aka Alagi Morr, allegedly presided over the severe torture of Dennis Winter, Michael Echrahim Chibuden and others who were arrested in connection with the 2 tons of cocaine seized at Bonto Island in the West Coast Region.

Alagie Morr and his buddy Ebrima Jim Drammeh were alleged to have once robbed a tourist with a gun at Senegambia. They were arrested and disarmed by Mr. Foday Barry, then Director of Intelligence and Investigation at the NIA. Morr was fired whiles Jim Drammeh was cautioned. He got reinstated
after Foday Barry was sacked. This was one of the reasons he kept hunting Foday Barry until in 2012 when he got Barry and Benedict Jammeh fired from DLEAG through his influence with former President Jammeh.
Alagie Morr and his team also allegedly tortured Ebrima Marreh and Rui Jabbi Gassama (Ousainou Kujabie), two star witnesses in the bogus treason trial of the former Chief of Defence Staff, Lieutenant General Lang Tombong Tamba and eight others.
