Corporal Mikai Jallow dies in car accident involving presidential advanced security vehicle

Corporal Mikai Jallow of the Gambia Police Force who was part of the President‘s Advanced Security Unit died in an accident involving presidential advanced security vehicle and two other vehicles around Pakalinding bridge in the Lower River Region on Tuesday, 21st May 2024.

Statements from both the Ministry of Information and State House have confirmed that the advanced security team vehicle collided with vehicles of the Gambia Bureau of Statistics (GBoS) who are on a nationwide census tour.

“All those involved were taken to Soma District Hospital. Upon reviewing their condition, a few were referred to the main EFSTH for further medical care. Among those injured is the driver, Modou Lamin Ceesay, who was in critical condition, and the rest of the accident victims are in stable condition. The President had directed that all needed care be given for their speedy recovery and healing.

President Barrow had stopped at the accident scene and spoke with the GBOS team and their Secretary General, Mr Nyakasi Sanyang, who were involved in the accident. Thankfully, they were all okay and proceeded to the Central River Region to conduct the national census.

Corporal Mikai Jallow’s body has been transferred to Farafenni, and his family has been informed in preparation for the burial in due course. Corporal Jallow was a gallant officer dedicated to duty,“ the statement from State House reads.
