An Open Letter to President Adama Barrow

Dear Mr President,

I am writing to you as a concerned citizen of our beloved nation. It is with great unease that I have noticed a significant increase in crime over the past few months. As a responsible citizen, I feel that it is my duty to bring this matter to your attention and implore your administration to take decisive action to address this issue.

The safety and well-being of our citizens should always be the top priority. It is disheartening to see a once peaceful neighbourhood now marred by incidents of crime, including theft, burglary, assault, and even violent crimes like rape. The impact of this surge in criminal activity extends beyond mere statistics; it affects the daily lives and sense of security of every citizen. Families are living in fear, businesses are suffering, and our country’s reputation is being tarnished by these unfortunate events. As concerned sovereign citizens, we must unite to find solutions and address the root causes of this growing problem to ensure the safety of all.

The recent surge in crime across various regions of our country is deeply troubling and calls for concern. Reports of violent crimes, thefts, and other criminal activities have become all too common in our communities. In fact, hardly a day goes by without hearing a report of a crime. The impact of this rising crime rate is felt by individuals and families who live in constant fear for their safety and well-being, as well as businesses and communities that are adversely affected by this menace.

I recognize and appreciate the efforts of our law enforcement agencies and officers who work tirelessly to maintain law and order around the clock. However, the challenges they face in combating this escalating crime wave are immense. To effectively address this issue, I respectfully urge your administration to consider the following measures:

Increased Law Enforcement Resources: Allocate additional resources to law enforcement agencies to enhance their capabilities, including hiring more officers, providing advanced training, and equipping them with the latest technology to combat all forms of crime.

Community Policing: Encourage community policing initiatives that promote positive engagement between law enforcement and the communities they serve. Building trust and cooperation is essential for crime prevention and a safe environment.

Mental Health and Rehabilitation Programs: Invest in mental health services and rehabilitation programs to address the root causes of crime and provide individuals with opportunities for reintegration into society.

Youth Empowerment: Implement youth development programs that offer educational, recreational, and employment opportunities to at-risk youth, reducing the likelihood of their involvement in criminal activities.

Gun Control Measures: Consider sensible gun control measures that aim to reduce the availability of firearms to individuals who may pose a danger to themselves or others.

Community Partnerships: Foster collaborations between law enforcement, local government, community organizations, and businesses to create comprehensive crime prevention strategies tailored to the unique needs of each community.

Criminal Justice Reform: Continue efforts to reform our criminal justice system to ensure fairness, equity, and rehabilitation, while maintaining public safety.

Mr. President, our citizens deserve to live in safe and secure environments. It is my sincere hope that your administration will prioritize addressing the high crime rate as a matter of urgency. By taking decisive and comprehensive action, we can work together to create safer communities and a brighter future for all.

I thank you for your attention to this critical issue and for your dedication to the well-being of our nation. I remain hopeful that, with your leadership, we can make meaningful progress in reducing crime and enhancing the quality of life for all citizens.

Saidina Alieu Jarjou.
