The Sahel Investment Group and American Chamber of Commerce The Gambia Chapter have paid tribute to the late veteran politician cum former minister of Agriculture Omar Amadou Jallow popularly known as OJ Jallow.

OJ has served as minister of Agriculture twice in the history of The Gambia. He was minister of Agriculture under the government of the country’s first president Sir Dawda Kairaba Jawara until 1994 when there was a military takeover.

He was again reappointed minister of Agriculture in 2017 under the government of President Adama Barrow until 2019 when he was removed.

While serving a stint as minister of Agriculture under the government of President Adama Barrow, Honourable OJ Jallow once attended the Sahel / American Chamber of Commerce‘s ( The Gambia) event dubbed the Gambia Diaspora Investment Forum in Atlanta, Georgia. The late OJ Jallow negotiated and agreed with the University of Georgia to collaborate in the areas of poultry and groundnuts. He was accompanied by his Permanent Secretary, Mr Mbye Jabang and Mrs Ndey Awa khan Ceesay. He made an impact and his positive legacy lives on.

“With guidance from Sahel, OJ Jallow set the ball rolling for the USAID and the University of Georgia to rekindle the old glorious partnership that was established during his tenure as Minister of Agriculture in the First Republic. This time around with a paradigm shift focused on Public Private Partnerships. After this trip, we embarked on a nationwide tour from Njongon to Limbambulu in Wuli to re-energize the farming community with OJ. Insha Allah, we will continue to fulfill his dreams,“ the Sahel /American Chamber of Commerce The Gambia Chapter stated.
