Mr. President, I present compliments to you and write this open letter with sorrow and sadness as a disturbed citizen and not a viewer about the increasing rate at which many innocent patients are losing their lives in some health facilities countrywide.
Mr. President, I do not doubt that you are aware of the fact that health plays a major role in one’s life, a person must survive on this planet earth. Thus, improper health leads to the death of the person, and it also leads to some major diseases making the person unfit to execute his/her task.
Mr. President, please be informed that the purpose of my open letter is not to say things that will please you, instead it is to ask you to spend a few minutes of your time to reflect and think about our patients lying down in hospitals without proper medication. You will be surprised to know that some citizens in rural Gambia have to walk long hours to access health care. Come to think of the saddest part, most dwellers use donkeys as means of transportation which many suffer before reaching the hospital.
Mr. President, may I remind you that one of your campaign promises was to provide better healthcare to the citizens from Kartong to Koina. The last time I checked it is believed that clinics and hospitals are supposed to be safe spaces for the sick. Unfortunately, it has become a death trap, especially for women during childbirth.
I am aware of the fact that the Gambia health sector has some dedicated professionals who work with passion and try their ultimate best to serve their patients with meager resources.
However, Mr. President, I regret to put it to you that the health sector under your leadership is in a catastrophic state of concern. Which is further sinking in the broad daylight like the mighty Titanic as a result of inadequate medical facilities and human resources.
Mr. President, so many questions have been coming into my mind, such as how can the sovereign citizens have trust in your administration if the health sector is moving towards an unknown destination?
While I look forward to you improving the health sector, please accept the assurance of my consideration.
