Journalist Pape Alé Niang granted bail

Senegal – Journalist Pape Alé Niang was released today, January 10, 2023, after a two-stage incarceration that began on November 6, 2022. He has thus been granted provisional liberty accompanied by judicial control granted by the Senegalese judicial authorities.

The Coordination of Press Associations (CAP) salutes the work and professionalism of the pool of lawyers of Pape Ale Niang, its coordinator Me Moussa Sarr, his colleagues Me Ciré Clédor Ly, Me Demba Ciré Bathily and Me Sheikh Khoureychi Ba, for their hard work, determination, total availability they have shown since the beginning of this case.

The CAP expresses its heartfelt thanks to all the journalists, technicians, and actors of the Senegalese media, young and old, who made all efforts. Despite a very difficult context, they mobilized themselves, and strongly committed themselves to the Pape Ale Niang case for the defense and respect of the noble principles of freedom of press and expression, which are the foundations of our profession.
