Some Gambian women have dominated the past two weeks for their triumphant efforts in lifting the Gambian flag higher in various ways through their area of work or participation in the country‘s development process.

ASP Fatou Fofana of the Gambia Police Force, Sarjo Britto, a sub-editor at the Fatu Network, and Saffiatou Joof, a poet are the stars that deserve commendation and are indeed the nation’s latest pride of exemplary hard-working women.

Below is a recap of the LTN’s “Gambian Women Of The Moment“ for the last two weeks:

ASP Fatou Fofana

ASP Fatou Fofana (Gambia Police Force)

She graduated on Tuesday, 1st November 2022 from the Turkish National Police Academy. ASP Fofana was part of 70 graduating foreign officers in this programme in Ankara.

The graduation graced by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan of Turkey included graduates from 14 foreign countries including The Gambia.

ASP Fatou Fofana is the first female officer to undergo that police academy. She bagged a Master of Arts degree in Security Management at the Security Strategic Institute of the Turkish National Police Chiefs Training Center. She also bagged a Diploma in Deputy Inspector Training.

Recently, another group has been sent from the Gambia Police Force to attend the same training. This badge includes seven (7) male officers and Two (2) female officers Aminata Sillah and Fatou Gibba, whose participation is confirmed.

Journalist Sarjo Britto

Sarjo Britto, Sub-Editor at Fatu Network

A press statement from the US Embassy in Banjul on 1st November 2022, revealed that Gambian journalist Sarjo Brito, a sub-editor at the Fatu Network was traveling to the US to cover Mid-term Elections.

She is among 24 international journalists accredited to cover the 2022 Mid-term Elections.

Sarjo Britto is a respected Gambian journalist who is focused, well-trained, and known for her professionalism in the trade.

Saffiatou Joof , a Poet

A young devoted Muslim, Saffiatou Joof authored a book titled: “Under The Spell Of Poetry“. She launched the book at the Sir Dawda Kairaba Jawara Conference Center in Bijilo on 5th November 2022. The ceremony was graced by dignitaries such as Imam Abdoulie Fatty, Imam Muhammed Lamin Touray, Momodou Sabally, former Presidential Affairs Minister, Neneh Freda Gomez, an activist and politician, students, and others.

Saffiatou Joof is an exemplary character for many young women and is hard-working and development-oriented.

LTN congratulates these ‘Women of The Moment‘ and encourages them to continue raising the Gambian flag higher.
