Sainabou Mbaye & Co remanded, case transferred to the High Court

Three accused persons; Sainabou Mbaye, Cherno Mbaye, and Kibili Dambelly were arraigned on Tuesday, 26th July 2022 before Magistrate Omar Jabang of the Kanifing Magistrate’s Court.

The trio are charged with manslaughter, contrary to the Criminal Code, Laws of The Gambia.  The particulars of offence stated that the accused persons Sainabou Mbaye, Cherno Mbaye, and Kibili Dambelly, on or about the 3rd July 2022, at diverse places in The Gambia, by an unlawful act or omissions, amounting to culpable negligence, left one Muhammed Mbaye, a two-year-old boy and resident of Brusubi, inside a car, which causes his death.

Sainabou Mbaye is the ex-wife of Babucarr Keita, widely known as Bob Keita, who is entangled in an alleged rape case and is currently undergoing trial at the high court in Banjul.

When the case was mentioned, Commissioner of Police Abdoulie Sanneh and Inspector Lamin Trawally announced their representation for the Inspector General of Police (IGP), whilst Lawyer Combeh Gaye and Lawyer Sagarr Jahateh announced their representation for the accused persons.

However, Magistrate Omar Jabang, in his ruling, transferred the case to the high court and gave an order for the accused persons to be kept in remand, pending their appearance before the high court.
