The Emir of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat in The Gambia Baba F. Trawally has written a letter, dated 9th June 2022, to the President HE Adama Barrow, informing him and his government about some concerns raised against some Wahabi/Salafi scholars and Imams in the Gambia, notably Imam Abdoulie Fatty and Sheikh Chebbo Oggo Cham, whom he says are bent to attacking the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat faith. He accused Imam Fatty and Sheikh Chebbo Cham of instigating hate, threats and spreading false information against the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat.
In his letter to the president, Emir Trawally alleged that Imam Fatty and Sheikh Chebbo Cham’s aim is not only to create violence and atrocities against the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat members but also against other Muslim sects, other faiths and the government of the country.
He called on the government to intervene and resolve the matter before it gets out of hand. The Emir also stated that the government, religious leaders, political parties and community leaders should preach peace and promote peaceful co-existence no matter what faith one belongs to.
Emir Trawally assured that the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat will continue to work with Government and ist institutions to contribute its quota towards national development.
