Press statement from State House.

President Adama Barrow has pledged $100,000 on behalf of The Gambia at the African Union Humanitarian Summit towards the African Humanitarian Agency, an AU initiative to address humanitarian and other disasters on the continent.

In announcing the pledge, President Barrow said he welcomed the initiative to collectively “improve our humanitarian situation, which will continue to be potential channels to realising the ‘Africa We Want.’”

Food insecurity and malnutrition, he added, continue to hamper the continent’s progress.

The President concluded by calling on his fellow African leaders to “work towards mitigating our humanitarian challenges” by closing “the gap between humanitarian needs, intervention programmes, and funding.”
