US Embassy extends condolences to bereaved families whose children died of AKI disease

Public Statement

The United States Embassy in Banjul extends its deepest condolences to the families that have lost precious children due to Acute kidney Injury (AKI). As partners supporting the health and well-being of The Gambia and in response to a request from the Gambian Ministry of Health, the United States recently sent a team from The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to assist with clinical investigations, data collection and analysis, and to offer technical advice for Gambian public health officials.

The World Health Organization also continues to support investigation activities. We know that nothing can be more painful than the death of a child, and we support all who seek to find answers for this tragedy.
