REVEALED! Mayor Bensouda terminated his mother’s ‘Legal Adviser‘ contract at KMC since 2018 to avoid conflict of interest

The Mayor of Kanifing Municipal Council (KMC) Ahmed Talib Bensouda has terminated Lawyer Amie Bensouda‘s (his mother) contract as Legal Adviser of the KMC since 2018 to avoid conflict of interest, LamToro News (LTN) has learnt.

This information was revealed in a council memo (report) obtained by LamToro News, signed by the KMC Mayor Talib Bensouda and Ousman Gaye, Clerk of the Council on 31st May 2018.

According to the report, this decision was taken during the first council meeting on 31st 2018 just after Talib Bensouda’s election as Mayor of the country’s largest municipality.

The country‘s youngest mayor in the history of the council took such a bold decision to avoid a conflict of interest.

“ Resolution 14/05/18 – Termination of Contract
WHEREAS members want to avoid a potential conflict of interest regarding Amie Bensouda & Co LP who are the external retained lawyers of council. And,
WHEREAS the law firm submitted notice of termination of their contract due to the relationship that exists between the firm and the Lord Mayor. And,
WHEREAS the aforementioned Law firm wants to allow the council to choose a new legal adviser.
Resolved that Amie Bensouda and Co LP be allowed to continue representing Council as they have agreed to serve the notice period at no cost to council and assist the institution in that period to build an internal legal unit as well as hire new external Advisers ,“ the Resolution stated.

The 18 Resolutions adopted in the said memo issued on 31st May 2018 were approved by the entire council and signed by Mayor Talib Bensouda and Council Clerk Ousman Gaye.

LamToro News also learned that Lawyer Yassin Senghore was later appointed as Legal Adviser of the council to replace Amie Bensouda and Co legal firm.
