KYDA donates food items worth over D88,000 to support families during Ramadan

The Karantaba Youths Development Association (KYDA) has donated food items (bags of rice and sugar) to every family in the entire village of Karantaba Wolof, Sami District, Central River Region.

The items were distributed in Karantaba Wolof village on Friday, 24th March 2023. This gesture is an annual event as the association has been supporting families every year during the month of Ramadan since 2017 to date. The association also made similar interventions by supporting families and women in every household in Karantaba Wolof during the Covid-19 pandemic in 2019 and 2020.

Speaking at the distribution ceremony, Musa Sallah, one of the elders of Karantaba Wolof who was tasked to distribute the items, thanked the members of the association. He also commended Ousman Kah, one of his childhood friends (a native of Karantaba Wolof) based in the USA, his wife Rokhaya Kah, and others such as Niabou Thiam for spearheading this gesture.

“This year, every family in the village has one bag of rice and a half bag of sugar. We have also catered for some amount of money for every family head to buy some loaves of bread for their families,“ he said.

Other elders of the village such as Sainey Sallah, the Alkalo of Karantaba Wolof, Jarndeh Kanteh, Sulayman Cham, and Diwreh Dem, all appreciated the gesture and thanked the donors.

The contributions of members and purchasing of the food items were gathered and coordinated by some Executive members of the association, namely: Musa Kanteh, Muhammed Sallah (Alhagie Deen), and Edrisa Sallah.

Speaking to LamToro News, Muhammed Sallah widely known as Alhagie Deen, President of KYDA, echoed similar sentiments and encouraged members and would-be members to embrace and nurture the association for the benefit of the village and people living there.

“It should be seen by us that we are giving back to society. It is a good gesture as this is in line with our Islamic teachings. The association has developed its constitution and is fully registered. Thus, the aim is to go beyond the distribution of food items but equally partake in the developmental drive of the village and look for projects that are of benefit to the village and the community at large,“ he said.

KYDA’s intervention is in addition to Alhagie Baboucarr Cham’s donation of two loaves of bread to every household in Karantaba village for the entire period of the month of Ramadan on a daily basis.
