Essa Faal, Baba Jah charged, granted bail in the sum of D100,000

Former independent presidential candidate (politician) cum Lawyer Essa Mbaye Faal and a famous Gambian comedian Ebou Bah widely known as Baba Jah have been charged by the police at Brusubi Police Station on Sunday afternoon, 24th July 2022, following their fracas at a fuel station in Bijilo Saturday night.

Another person said to be one of Essa Faal’s bodyguards who was reported to have physically hit comedian Baba Jah, is also arrested and detained at the Brusubi Police Station without bail.

Mr. Faal was the former Lead Counsel of the just concluded maiden Truth, Reconciliation and Reparations Commission (TRRC). He was seen in a video filmed by Baba Jah on Saturday night having a fracas with the comedian, who is a strong supporter of President Adama Barrow’s party, the National People’s Party (NPP).

Confirming the latest police action on their fracas, Inspector Alieu Jamanka, deputy spokesperson of the Gambia Police Force, said Essa Faal is charged with idle and disorderliness, whilst Baba Jah is charged with idle, disorderliness and prohibition of conduct, contrary to Section 9 of the Public Order Act.

“A third person, said to be part of Essa Faal’s bodyguards is charged with common assault. He is detained without bail,“ he remarked.

The police deputy PRO said both Mr. Faal and Mr. Bah have been granted bail in the sum of D100,000 and are asked to report to Brusubi Police Station on Monday at 9 am.
