The Inspector General of Police Abdoulie Sanyang and the entire Gambia Police Force wish to congratulate Deputy Superintendent of Police, Fatoumata Touray, on her call to the Bar as Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of The Republic of The Gambia.
Before this great achievement, DPS Touray obtained LLB in Law from the University of the Gambia in the year 2018 with outstanding results which qualified her enrollment into the BAR school in 2021.
Fatoumata in the same year 2021, enrolled in a Master’s Degree program in International Relations and Diplomacy at the University of the Gambia where she is currently working on her thesis.
Before her recent appointment as officer commanding prosecution and legal affairs, Mrs. Saidy served in various capacities in the Gambia Police Force, including Officer In-charge Prosecution and Legal Affairs at the Anti-Crime Unit, In-charge of prosecution and legal affairs, Old Yundum Police station, In-Charge Prosecution, and legal affairs Serrekunda Police Station and a host of other responsibilities.
As a young promising officer, DSP Touray also served in an International peace support mission with the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) for a period of two years from (2018 – 2020) which allowed her to learn and share the experience with other members of different security formations from different countries. During her assignment with the UNION Mission, she was appointed as Reform and Advisory Officer, Acting UNPOL Gender Adviser, and Secretary General for the UNPOL Women Network. These experiences has made her to become a certified trainer for other officers who are bound for UN missions.
Apart from her academic pursuit, Mrs. Saidy attended several short-term pieces of training within and outside The Gambia which includes Criminal Justice System, Crime Scene Management, Women, Peace and Security, Security Sector Reform, etc.
She was also part of the team that developed the Training Curriculum for the Gambia Prisons Service and policing Doctrine for the Gambia Police Force. Fatoumata is the current Deputy Chairperson of the Gambia Police Force Female Network. A network that seeks to empower and address the needs and challenges female officers are faced in their line of duty.
The Gambia Police Force’s high command is highly interested in empowering and motivating its personnel to ensure equal participation and opportunities are provided for all and sundry, irrespective of sex or other considerations to acquire the highest academic and professional qualifications for effective and efficient service delivery to all Gambians and Residents of The Gambia.
