The Ministry of Tourism and Culture and the Gambia Tourism Board (GT Board) after an intense marketing of destination Gambia, has on Friday 14th October 2022 welcomed its maiden flight of tourists with the The Gambia Experience, marking the beginning of the Tourist Season at the Banjul International Airport.
The Director General Abubacarr Camara said the GT Board is very optimistic for a successful tourist season.
“The Gambia Experience holidaymakers to The Gambia maiden flight for the 2022/23 tourism season has landed with 164 passengers onboard a Boeing 737 Holidays in The Gambia. We hope that this will be a better year as we have intensified our marketing strategy for destination Gambia, ” he said.
The Tourism and Culture Minister Honourable Hamat Bah in a recent interview at his office in Banjul revealed that the GT Board has realized the need to market destination Gambia by the institution and not to completely depend on tour operators. This he adds, has prompted the embracing of modern strategies such as digital marketing, visiting most tourist countries, amongst others as part of a marketing strategy.
Honourable Bah said the hospitality industry is currently bracing up for the 2022 Tourist season as hotels, lodges and other players are busy renovating and producing attractive products and leisure services.
The Gambia’s tourism industry primarily relies on the charter market, with most tourists on package tours. Air travel links with the rest of the world are limited but there are direct and multiple flights per week to and from Europe, as well as some flights within the West Africa sub-region.
