
Colonel Omar B. Bojang, the outgoing Deputy National Security Adviser has been appointed as the new Defence Attaché at the Gambia Embassy in China, LamToro News has learnt.
Col. Bojang replaces Lt. General Ousman Bargie, a former Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) of the Gambia Armed Forces (GAF, 2012 -2017) who served as Defence Attache at the Gambian Embassy in China. Bargie and his family returned to the Gambia about two weeks ago.

The Office of the National Security Adviser had on Friday organised a send off party for Colonel Bojang as he prepares for his new assignment in China. Colonel Omar B. Bojang is a discipline, hard working committed and a professional officer with a rich military and security background.
Col. Bojang holds a master’s degree in Leadership and Defence Studies from the Nigeria Defence Academy in 2022. Previously, he did several courses and trainings such as, the Infantry Officers Course (IOC) the Basic School, Marine Corps Quantico in Virginia, USA in the year 2007; Logistic Officers Course, Marine Corps Base, Camp Johnson,in North Carolina, USA, also in 2007 ; Infantry Platoon commander`s Battle Course, in The UK in 2009 ; Peace Support Training at the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre, in Ghana in 2011; Senior Staff Course at the Nigerian Armed Forces Command and Staff College from 2017 – 2018; Joint Operational Planning Course at the Army War College in Nigeria; and a Higher Strategy and Management Course at the Fellow Army War College of Nigeria in 2023.
Colonel Omar B. Bojang also held several key positions within the Gambia Armed Forces. These include; Public Relations Officer of GAF from 2008 – 2012; Commandant of the Armed Forces Training School from 2018 – 2020; Commander of the Gambia Armed Forces Quick Reaction Forces (QRF),Operations Restore Sanity, Operations ‘Dalal Hell’, Operations ‘Woullah Kakoon’ from January 2021 to April 2022. Bojang was Director of Operations at the Defence Headquarters, Gambia Armed Forces ; Director of Training and Doctrine, Defence Headquarters and he later became Deputy National Security Adviser until his new assignment recently as Defence Attache to China.
On his achievements, Col. Bojang has previously won several medals such as AU medal, Good Conduct Medal, UNAMID Medal, UNOCI medal, Long Service medal, Distinguished Service Medal and has obtained a Certificate of Commendation, The Commandant at the Basic School Quantico, Virginia in the USA.
