After criss-crossing the length and breadth of the Gambia, visiting police stations and facilities for the first time since his appointment one-year ago, Seedy M. Touray, Inspector General of The Gambia Police Force, has arrived in Dakar, Senegal today, 26th May 2025, for a one-week working visit.

The Gambia’s police chief accompanied by top echelons of the country’s police force, was received on arrival at the foot of the aircraft at the Blaise Diagne International Airport by the Deputy Director General of the Senegalese National Police Abdou Wahabou Sall and other senior officers of the Senegalese police force.

IGP Seedy Mucktar Touray’s delegation comprised of senior officers of the Gambian police high command such as AIG Ebrima Bah of Police Adminsitration, AIG Demba Sowe, Crime Management, AIG Pateh Jallow of Police Operations, AIG Adelaide Basangeh , Commissioner of Police Intervention Unit (PIU), Commissioner Nfamara Jobarteh of the International Affairs Unit, Deputy Superintendent of Police Fatoumata Touray of the Prosecution Unit and Deputy Commissioner of Police Abdou Bojang, the Personal Assistant to the IGP.

According to the Senegalese National Police, the week-long visit is part of a drive to strengthen security cooperation between the two countries, with the aim of combating common threats such as cross-border crime, drug trafficking and illegal migration.

In addition to security issues, the visit also aims to strengthen the fraternal ties between Senegal and The Gambia, two countries that share a common history and culture.
IGP Seedy M. Touray’s recent nationwide tour in The Gambia was a good initiative as he has interacted with police officers across the country, visited communities, got first hand information on the working conditions of police officers, their community engagements and efforts in tackling crimes and criminality in The Gambia despite the limited resources available.

The country’s police chief’s visit to his counterpart in Dakar is also a smart move as the Senegalese Police Chief Mame Seydou Ndour was the first to visit The Gambia in early January this year. Such exchange visits will strengthen the already existing collaboration between security forces of the sister countries and will help to boost efforts in combating crimes.
