The Egyptian African Businessmen’s Association (EABA) is a non-profit organization established in 2019 with the aim of enhancing economic collaboration between Egypt and other African nations. Headquartered in Cairo, EABA serves as a platform for fostering trade, investment, and industrial partnerships across the continent.
Mission and Vision:
EABA’s mission is to drive transformative change and foster innovation in Africa’s business landscape. The association envisions active participation in elevating the Egyptian and African economies on an international scale. It emphasizes the importance of mutual benefit and public interest, striving to unify the efforts of the African private sector to enhance production capacity and progress.
Structure and Membership:
The association comprises 22 industrial committees representing various sectors, including agriculture, energy, manufacturing, and finance. Its membership includes companies and national banks, utilizing an extensive network of 150,000 African businesses to promote trust-building, information sharing, and cooperation.
Activities and Partnerships:
EABA actively engages in organizing forums, conferences, and business matching events to facilitate connections between Egyptian and African businesses. Notable initiatives include the Nigerian Businessmen Forum, which gathered 145 key Nigerian businessmen in 2022, and the annual Africa Agriculture Day, aimed at promoting intra-African trade in essential crops and inputs for food security.
The association has established a memorandum of understanding with 10 African chambers of commerce and collaborates with organizations like the African Development Bank to support Egyptian businesses’ expansion into the rest of Africa. These partnerships focus on leveraging bank-funded operations and creating task forces to explore areas of potential collaboration.
Leadership and Outreach:
Under the leadership of Chairman Dr. Yousry El Sharkawy, EABA has been instrumental in fostering economic and trade relations between Egypt and other African nations. The association also engages in cultural exchange and investment promotion activities, such as the virtual conference “Egypt-Liberia Day 2024,” aimed at enhancing investment and cultural exchange between Egypt and Liberia.
