The Chief of Police Operations of the Gambia Police Force (GPF), Commissioner Ansumana Kinteh has been redeployed , LamToro News has learnt.

Kinteh, a Master’s Degree holder, is now Commissioner for Human Rights and Professional Standard Unit of the Gambia Police Force.

Sources at the Police Headquarters in Banjul hinted that Commissioner Kinteh’s removal as Chief of Police Operations is in connection to the report of the incident that occurred at the Jah Oil Fuel Station at Bond Road, Banjul on Tuesday night, January 28, 2025, during which an alleged shooting occurred, leading to the injury of one Momodou Njie, a 30-year-old Gambian and resident of Njoro Tukulor in the Central River Region (CRR).

According a police statement on 29th January 2025, the said Momodou Njie sustained a gunshot wound on his leg and was admitted at the Edward Francis Small Teaching Hospital in Banjul. The police also disclosed that one Ousainou Njie, a 20-year-old and Ousman Jobe, a 25-year-old , both Senegalese nationals were arrested.

“Indeed Commissioner Kinteh reported the truth about the incident but there was a conflicting report from the police management which is different from Kinteh’s account of the incident. Some said the police version is a cover up but the truth will one day emerge. Kinteh is a good officer and has never been found wanting. His interpersonal skills, experience and knowledge of the job are exceptional,” one of the sources (name withheld) disclosed.
