The Force Commander (FC) of ECOMIG, Colonel Ngiagne Diouf, on Tuesday, 4th February 2025, paid a courtesy call on the National Security Adviser (NSA), Abubakarr Suleiman Jeng, at the State House, Office of National Security (ONS) to reinforce collaboration between ECOMIG and The Gambia’s security architecture.
During the meeting, the FC emphasized the need to sustain and build upon the achievements of his predecessor, highlighting the importance of continued cooperation with the Gambian Defence and Security Forces (GDSF). He provided an update on ongoing Civil-Military Cooperation (CIMIC) initiatives led by ECOMIG contingents and sought the NSA’s support in securing ECOWAS resources to further these efforts. The FC also expressed his appreciation for the NSA’s continued backing.

NSA Jeng welcomed the FC and commended ECOMIG for its vital role in maintaining security and stability in The Gambia. He acknowledged the professionalism of ECOMIG personnel and their alignment with the mission’s mandate. Reaffirming the commitment of the GDSF to strengthening collaboration, he highlighted joint security operations and night patrols as key areas of continued partnership.
Recognizing ECOMIG’s contributions to CIMIC initiatives, NSA Jeng underscored the importance of engaging with local communities to enhance security outcomes. He assured the FC that The Gambia’s security operations would continue to integrate ECOMIG’s support where needed. Furthermore, he reiterated The Gambia’s appreciation for ECOMIG’s role in peace and security, pledging continued cooperation and maintaining open communication channels.
