PRESS RELEASE FROM THE ALTERNATIVE FOR CITIZENSHIP (ARC)
8th November 2024.
Despite the calls for peace and serenity reiterated by the Alternative Party for Citizen Succession (ARC) and its president Mrs. Anta Babacar Ngom Diack, since the beginning of the electoral campaign, malicious spirits have sought, through intimidation and brutality, to stifle our voice and tarnish our image.
On November 5, 2024, in Diourbel, our party’s convoy was the victim of a cowardly and unjustifiable attack. Amidst shouts and slogans chanted in support of Mr. Ousmane SONKO, attackers violently attacked our caravan, seriously damaging the vehicle of our departmental leader. Local authorities, including the Diourbel police station, have drawn up an official report of this despicable act. Earlier in the day, our Ndoulo leader was also the victim of a physical assault by PASTEF supporters. Faced with these repeated provocations, ARC, faithful to its values of peace, democracy and respect for diversity of opinions, will not give in to fear or intimidation.
We are filing a complaint against Mr. Ousmane SONKO, president of the PASTEF party, against the departmental head of PASTEF in Diourbel and all those who, under their responsibility, are complicit in these attacks. We demand that all light be shed on these incidents and that the culprits be brought to justice.
We call on the Minister of the Interior to take the necessary measures to guarantee the safety of our activists, our leaders and all our activities on the national territory. The State must protect the inalienable right of each party to campaign freely, without threats or violence.
We strongly reaffirm our commitment to democracy, respect for institutions and a dignified debate of ideas. ARC calls on its activists to continue their activities in a calm and restrained manner.
