The president of Senegal Bassirou Diomaye Faye has dissolved the National Assembly of Senegal on Thursday 12 September, 2024, two years to the day after the deputies took office. The President of the Republic made the decision in a decree signed on Thursday.

The idea of dissolving the National Assembly has been hotly debated, particularly on the government side, ever since Bassirou Diomaye Faye took office. But the first official announcement was made by the Prime Minister, Ousmane Sonko, immediately after the rejection of the bill to revise the constitution and dissolve the High Council of Local Authorities (Hcct) and the Economic, Social and Environmental Council (Cese).
