Former Police Commissioner Detained for Spreading False News

Commissioner Keita

A former Police Commissioner Cheikhouna Keïta was taken into custody on Friday, following his interrogation at the premises of the Criminal Investigation Division in Dakar, Senegal, Seneweb reports.

According to Seneweb, the former police commissioner was arrested after making remarks deemed offensive to the President of the Republic Bassirou Diomaye Faye and Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko. Keïta is accused of spreading false news.

Will former Police Commissioner Keïta be dragged to court?

According to Seneweb, unless there is a change of plans, the former detective will spend the weekend in custody, pending his transfer to the public prosecutor’s office on Monday 9 September.

It could be recalled that Cheikhouna Keïta explained that he had been questioned by investigators about a video in which he recounts a famous brawl between the President of the Republic Bassirou Diomaye Faye and his Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko. The retired commissioner said that all he had done was repeat what many people had already said about the relationship between Sonko and Diomaye.
