Press Release: 28th August, 2024.
The 8th Executive Council of the Association of Gambian Students in India through its Public Relations Department wants to bring to the attention of the public a major concern affecting many Gambian students in India, especially the private students.
It is rather unfortunate that many students opt to take admissions in India without proper guidance and support from fellow Gambian students who are already here and, for this reason, many fall prey in the hands of dubious scammers who mask themselves as agents. Some provide these innocent students fake admission letters and lure them to commit their financial resources only to come to India and find that everything was anchored on lies and scams.
Additionally, some agents, including Gambians, will persuade individuals to apply for schools, mainly colleges they have no idea about and once these students make it to India, they are left on their own and this has left many in dear need of financial and psychological support.
One may ask, why do they mislead their fellow Gambians? Well, it is for one obvious reason, money! They are only interested in the couple of hundred dollar commissions they receive at the expense of their own brothers and sisters.
Therefore, as students who have first hand experiences of such unimaginable acts, you will be surprised to know that we have in our midst people who are affected by similar problems and the association through its Social and Welfare Department is doing everything within its means to provide the moral and psychosocial support to help them endure this difficult period.
We therefore seek the support of the general public to inform our dear brothers and sisters that the association is recognized by the Gambian Embassy in India and the Ministry of Higher Education. Therefore, they can always reach out to us for any kind of support related to academics through our social media handles.
Thank you for your cooperation.
Best regards,
Public Relations Department,
8th Executive Committee,
Association of Gambian Students in India.
