Malick Njie, a medical doctor was on Wednesday, 22nd May 2024 arraigned before Kanifing Magistrates’ Court for indecently assault for allegedly touching a woman’s buttocks, robbing her back and grabbing her waist.
Dr. Njie (accused) was charged with indecent assault on female contrary to Section 126 of the Criminal Code. The law provides that a person who unlawfully and indecently assaults a woman or girl commits a misdemeanour, and is liable on conviction to imprisonment for a term of two years.
Inspector Baba Jallow represented the Inspector General of Police while Counsel Silver appeared for the accused person.
According to the particulars of the offence, Malick Njie on or about the 14th of December 2023 at Bakau intentionally and unlawfully assaulted one lady (name withheld) by touching her buttocks, robbing her back and grabbing her waist. He pleaded not guilty.
Principal Magistrate Sallah Mbye granted the accused bail in the sum of One Hundred Thousand Dalasi (D100,000) or to provide one Gambian surety. The case was adjourned to the 10th of June 2024 for the hearing.
