“Centenary Celebration of the Legacy and Life of Sir Dawda Kairaba Jawara 1924 – 2024”
The Kairaba Conservation and Leadership Organization KairaCLO commemorated Sir Dawda Jawara’s Centenary Celebration with a Tree Planting Exercise at The National Assembly of The Gambia.
Amidst the solemn tributes and heartfelt reminiscences, dignitaries and parliamentarians gathered at the National Assembly of The Gambia to honor the centenary of the late first President, Sir Dawda Jawara. In a poignant ceremony, officials planted trees as a symbolic gesture of respect and remembrance for his profound contributions to the nation.
Sir Dawda Jawara, a revered figure in Gambian history, was instrumental in leading the country to independence and fostering a legacy of unity and progress. As the nation marks his centenary, this tree planting exercise serves as a tangible expression of gratitude for his enduring impact on the Gambian people.
Speaking at the event, The Chief Justice Of The Gambia Hassan Bubacarr Jallow underscored the importance of preserving Sir Dawda Jawara’s legacy for future generations. He emphasized the significance of environmental conservation, echoing his commitment to sustainable development and the protection of natural resources.
The planting exercise held at the National Assembly not only pays homage to Sir Dawda Jawara’s remarkable legacy but also reaffirms the government’s dedication to upholding his values of unity, progress, and environmental stewardship. “As the newly planted trees take root and grow, they will stand as living tributes to his memory and the enduring spirit of The Gambia.” Honorable Speaker Fabakary Tombong Jatta.

The tree planting ceremony concluded with a moment of reflection, as attendees paid their respects to Sir Dawda Jawara and renewed their commitment to building a brighter future for The Gambia in his honor. Five trees were planted by the Chief Justice Hassan Bubacar Jallow, the Rt. Honorable Speaker Fabakary Tombong Jatta, The Bishop of Banjul Gabriel Mendy, CSSp, The Police Commissioner of Banjul on behalf of the IGP and Honorable Madi MK Ceesay.
