Farato robbery case suspect charged

Police have announced the arrest and detention of one Ismaila Faye, a suspect in the robbery case which occured at a Western Union bureau in Farato Bojang Kunda on April 17, 2024.

The suspect has been charged with robbery contrary to the Criminal Code, Laws of the Gambia.

According to the police, the alleged suspect reportedly disguised himself as a customer, threatened an employee with a knife, and fled with D75,126 after binding and gagging the victim.

“During interrogation, the suspect confessed to the crime and led police to his residence, where D28,106 was found. He admitted to spending a significant amount of the stolen money on construction materials, including cement, sand, and gravel. Further searches recovered a knife used in the robbery and the victim’s two mobile phones,” the police said in a statement shared on Sunday morning.

The police also confirmed that the suspect remains in custody as the investigation continues.
