Former Guinean dictator Moussa Dadis Camara, taken out of prison on Saturday morning by a heavily armed commando, has been recaptured and returned to prison, the army and his lawyer have said.

“Captain Moussa Dadis Camara was found safe and sound and returned to prison,” Ansouma Toumany Camara, the army’s director of information (Dirpa), told AFP, without specifying the circumstances of his capture.

One of the former president’s lawyers (2008-2009), Jocamey Haba, confirmed in a brief exchange with AFP that his client was back in his cell.

Only Colonel Claude Pivi remains unaccounted for among the three or four men (depending on sources) taken from prison in a commando operation, said the director of the Dirpa.

He is “actively sought”, but “has no chance of leaving the country as Conakry is surrounded”, he added.
