The Gambia Armed Forces (GAF) on Thursday October 12, 2023 conducted a historic handing and taking over of Command Baton between the outgoing Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) Lieutenant General (Rtd) Yakuba A Drammeh and the incoming CDS Major General Mamat O Cham at the Defence Headquarters in Banjul. The event symbolizes change in leadership from Lieutenant General (Rtd) Yakuba A Drammeh who has served with distinction to Major General Mamat O Cham, a distinguished charismatic leader.
The event was marked by the historic signing of the handing and taking over documents, handing of the Baton of Command and the GAF flag from the outgoing to the incoming CDS. Also was the lowering of the old GAF flag signalling the end of era of Lieutenant General (Rtd) Yakuba A Drammeh and hoisting of a new one marking the start of Major General Mamat O Cham’s tenure as CDS of the GAF.
