The United Democratic Party (UDP) has filed lawsuits against six Advisers to the President of the Republic of The Gambia and four (4) diplomats, challenging the constitutionality of their appointments.
The Gambia’s main opposition party claims the appointments of the said advisers and diplomats contravene Section 170 of the Constitution of the Republic of The Gambia.
A press statement signed by Tombong Saidy, Senior Administrative Secretary for Media and Communications, on 26th July 2023 stated that Ebrima Dibba, a member of the UDP has on 26th July filed in the Supreme Court suit against the following Presidential Advisers:
1. DEMBO BOJANG
2. LAMIN CHAM
3. HENRY GOMEZ
4. DODOU SANNO commonly called DOU SANNO
5. SULAYMAN CAMARA
6. LAMIN K. SAIDY
The press statement also indicated that Honourable Madi K. Ceesay, National Assembly member for Serrekunda West Constituency, Deputy Minority Leader and member of the National Assembly Committee on Foreign Relations and the United Democratic Party have also filed on the same date, lawsuit against the following diplomats:
1. FATOUMATA JAHUMPA- CEESAY
2. SHEIKH TIJAN HYDARA
3. OUSMAN JATTA aka RAMBO JATTA
4. LAMIN BOJANG aka LAMIN SATOU BOJANG
Mr. Ceesay is challenging the constitutionality of their appointments in the Foreign and Diplomatic Services of The Gambia.
“The United Democratic Party is a Party that believes in the rule of law and will continue to defend and uphold the constitution of The Gambia,” the release concludes.
