German Embassy in The Gambia inaugurated

The new German Embassy in The Gambia was on Wednesday, 17th May 2023 inaugurated by the Honorable German Minister of State Ms. Katja Keul & the Gambia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. Mamadou Tangara. The Embassy is located in Kotu at the same place where the Consul Office was located.

A statement from Gambian State House published on Wednesday indicated that President Barrow had earlier received the Minister of State of the Federal Republic of Germany, Ms Katja Keul, at the State House in Banjul.

According to the statement, the President appreciated the escalation of the Gambia-German diplomatic ties with the opening of an embassy in Banjul, which he described as an Indication of commitment to the relationship.

The President’s discussion with the German Minister included updates on transitional justice and the Security Sector Reform, victims’ support, and reparations to promote reconciliation alongside other processes of the transition Justice programme. “Also, the efforts to prepare for a hybrid court for the Justice process are ongoing with the recent launching of the TRRC Implementation plan and Donor conference geared towards accomplishing justice for the victims.”
