SENEGAL: Abdoulaye Daouda Diallo appointed as new president of the Economic, Social and Environmental Council

President Macky Sall of Senegal has appointed Abdoulaye Daouda Diallo as President of the Economic, Social, and Environmental Council (EESC) on Monday, 24th April 2023.  He replaces Mr. Idrissa Seck, who resigned earlier today. Mr. Seck is the head of the Rewmi political party and has announced his intention to contest as a presidential candidate in the 2024 presidential election.

The new head of EESC Abdoulaye Daouda Diallo has held several strategic positions under the regime of President Sall. In 2012, he was appointed Minister Delegate to the Minister of Economy and Finance in charge of the Budget, before being promoted to Minister of the Interior in 2013. He headed this department for five years, before being appointed Minister of Land Transport and Disenclavement in 2017, and then he became Minister of Finance and Budget in 2019. Many observers believe that Abdoulaye Daouda Diallo was among the potential candidates for the post of Prime Minister of Senegal.

However, Amadou Ba was preferred. Mr. Diallo ended up at the Presidency as Director of the Cabinet of the President of the Republic, Macky Sall. A position that illustrates the relationship of trust between him and the president of Senegal.
