Senegal: Former Prime Minister called for questioning over allegations against President Macky Sall

Senegal’s leading online medium Seneweb has reported that the former Prime Minister Cheikh Hadjibou Soumaré has received his summons to appear before investigators of the Dakar Urban Security (Police), today, 9th March 2023.

In an open letter, the former Prime Minister suggested that the President of the Republic, Macky Sall has given money to the leader of the French far right, Marine Le Pen during a meeting: “Have you recently given money to a French politician? If so, is it an amount of 12 million euros or about 7.9 billion money from a country classified as a Highly Indebted Poor Country, especially when we know that hatred and rejection of the other have always been used by the party as a vehicle for political ascension,“ said, referring to President Sall.

The Senegalese government reacted to this in a statement signed by the spokesperson, Abdou Karim Fofana.

“The government rejects and strongly condemns such insinuations, cowardly and unfounded, which clearly demonstrate an evil desire to discredit the person of the President of the Republic, undermine the institution that he embodies and harm relations between Senegal and a foreign power,“ the press release reads, while vigorously recalling “that he reserves the right to take any action he deems appropriate to these false, malicious and unworthy of someone who has held high state office.“
