KMC spent D250,000 on Jammeh’s 49th Birthday celebration in 2014 – payment voucher reveals

A leaked payment voucher has shown that the Kanifng Municipal Council (KMC) under the leadership of former Mayor Yankuba Colley, has spent D250,000 on the 49th birthday celebration of former president Yahya Jammeh on 24th May 2014.

According to the payment voucher marked PV14-1471, dated 14th May 2014, with Cheque No. 5419, the said amount was part of the KMC’s contributions to the 49th birthday celebration of the former president.

In 2015, another payment voucher marked Voucher No. PV15-0391, dated 21/05/2015 with Cheque No: 0000006 from Zenith Bank Limited, was paid to Momodou Lamin Badgie of KMC, described as part payment from donations for the former president’s birthday.

In 2016, a payment voucher marked PV16-0635, dated 24/05/2016, with Cheque No. 00000053 indicated that an amount of D300,000 was paid from Zenith Bank, being cash imprests payment to the Local Organising Committee (LOC) for the former president’s birthday celebration.

In another development, the former Mayor Yankuba Colley and Momodou Lamin Badgie organised a press conference on Tuesday to debunk the remarks of the current Mayor Talib Bensouda who said at a municipal council tour recently that the KMC used to spend money on birthday celebrations of the former president, among other administrative malpractices which are no longer happening under his watch as Mayor since 2018.
