New Gambian VP to be sworn in tomorrow

The newly appointed Vice President will be sworn in on Tuesday, 7th March 2023 at 10 am at the Cabinet Room at the State House in Banjul, authorities confirmed.

VP Muhammed B.S Jallow was appointed by HE President Adama Barrow in accordance with the provisions of Sections 70(1) and 70(3) of the Constitution of the Republic of The Gambia, on 24th February 2023.

He replaced the late Dr. Alieu Badara Joof. Dr Joof died in India on 18th January 2023 while seeking medical treatment after a long illness. The late VP Dr. Badara Joof was honoured with a State burial in The Gambia on 23rd January 2023.

Meanwhile, the new VP Muhammed B.S Bah is an experienced Civil Servant who served in various capacities in the country’s Civil Service.

He was Permanent Secretary in various Ministries and rose to the position of Secretary General and Head of the Civil Service, a position he held until his statutory retirement in 2020. Mr Jallow also worked at the Senegalo -Gambia Secretariat as Deputy Executive Secretary representing The Gambia.

He is expected to take the Oaths of Office, Allegiance, and Secrecy tomorrow to mark the official start of his functions as the country’s number most important personality to steer the affairs of the Nation without fear or favour.
