Alieu Njie appointed as new Secretary to Cabinet, as Ebrima Ceesay redeployed to Foreign Service

Mr. Alieu Njie, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of the Environment has been appointed as the new Secretary to Cabinet, credible sources at the Personnel Management Office (PMO) confirmed.

Mr. Njie replaces Ebrima Ceesay, who has been redeployed as The Gambia’s Ambassador-Designate to Russia.

In a similar development, Alhagie Nyangado, The Gambia’s Ambassador in Russia has also been redeployed as Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of The Environment, replacing Alieu Njie.

“The appointment took place yesterday,“ said one of the sources.

Mr. Njie is a seasoned civil servant. He started his civil service career at the PMO, and then he was transferred to the Office of the President where he rose to the rank of a Permanent Secretary. Mr. Njie was later redeployed to the Foreign Service. He worked as First Secretary at the Gambia High Commissioner in the UK. He was also Consular at one time and later became Deputy High Commissioner and Charge d’affaires at the Gambia High Commission in the UK and the Commonwealth.

Mr. Njie was recalled mid-last year and appointed as Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of the Environment, a position he served until his latest appointment back to the Office of the President at the State House in Banjul.
