The Togolese government confirmed on Monday that the deposed head of the Burkinabe junta, Lieutenant Colonel Paul-Henri Sandaogo Damiba, had taken refuge in Togo after the military takeover.

“Damiba is in Togo in the spirit of Burkina Faso’s commitment to peace in the sub-region,” Togo’s communication minister and government spokesman Akodah Ayewouadan said.
