Meet Fanta Secka: The Gambia Police Force’s first female Barrister

Fanta Secka is the first female Barrister of the Gambia Police Force. She has over 6years of experience in the field of Policing, Investigation, and Prosecution. Fanta is attached as a Legal Assistant at the office of the Crime Management Coordinator of the Gambia Police Force focusing on investigations and offering legal assistance to the Crime Management Coordinator in particular and the CID unit in general.

Undoubtedly, she has a unique potential in leadership and development in policing with a strong background in project management and customer relations gathered through specialized pieces of training. She served as Investigator at the Truth, Reconciliation and Reparations Commission of the Gambia for 2years where she investigated Human Rights abuses that occurred during the Jammeh regime and held face-to-face interviews with victims of these abuses as well as their perpetrators.

In the realms of education, Fanta holds a Barrister-at-Law (BL) certificate at the Gambia Law School and is enrolled to practice as a Legal Practitioner in The Gambia by the General Legal Council. She held LLB Degree in Law at the University of the Gambia, a Certificate in Human Resource Management at the West African Chartered College, and a Certificate in Information Technology at Jollof Tutors Institute of Professional Studies with excellent grades.

Internationally, she attended Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan under the Public Management Track of the 2022 Mandela Washington Fellowship, the flagship program of the U.S Government’s Young African Leaders Initiative.

Presently, Fanta has been moved to the Prosecution and Legal Affairs Unit to assist in offering legal advice and prosecuting criminal offenses under the mandate of the Gambia Police Force.
