Lt. Col. Sanyang

The Chief of Defence Staff of the Gambia Armed Forces (GAF), Lieutenant General Yakuba Drammeh has re-appointed Lieutenant Colonel Lamin K Sanyang as the Director of Press and Public Relations (DPPR) of GAF with effect from 9 August 2022. Lieutenant Colonel Sanyang recently returned from Nigeria after successfully completing the Senior Staff Course at the Armed Forces Command and Staff College (AFCSC), Jaji, Nigeria. The senior officer was among 247 students of Senior Course 44 of the College that recently graduated on Thursday 14 July 2022 at a colourful ceremony presided over by the President and Commander-In-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency Muhammadou Buhari. He was also among 15 international students that underwent a 48 week-long intensive and rigorous training at the College in command and staff as well leadership studies.

Lieutenant Colonel Sanyang joined the Gambia Armed Forces in June 2002 as part of the nucleus of the Gambia Air force. He attended the National Aviation University in Ukraine from 2003 to 2007 where he obtained a Bachelor’s degree in automation and Computer-Integrated Systems. He was Commissioned and promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 1st January 2008 and Captain on 1st January 2012. In June 2014, he attended the Spartan College of Aeronautics and Technology in Tulsa, Oklahoma, United States of America where he graduated with an Honours degree in Aviation Electronics in April 2015. Upon his return from the USA, he was promoted to the rank of Major on 1st June 2015. He was recently promoted and decorated to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel by His Excellency the President and Commander-In-Chief of The Gambia Armed Forces, Mr. Adama Barrow, in addition to several other senior officers of GAF.

During the 20 years of his military career, Lieutenant Colonel Lamin K Sanyang held several positions in the Armed Forces notable among which were Staff Officer Grade 3 (Inspectorate Department) and Director of Press and Public Relations of the Gambia Armed Forces. Others were Editor-In-Chief of the Armed Forces Magazine the Ahooah Magazine (a magazine published by the GAF) and Military Assistant to the Chief of Defence Staff, amongst others.

The AFCSC, Jaji, Nigeria is a Joint Service institution established on 29 May 1976 to produce operational-level military officers of the highest professional standard as well as to ensure standardization of Staff Duties in the Nigerian Armed Forces. The College has since continued to meet the objectives of developing the knowledge and understanding of selected officers of the Nigerian Armed Forces as well as officers from allied countries. This is with a view to preparing them for increasing responsibilities both on staff and in command.
