PRESS STATEMENT ON THE DONATION TO CRIME SCENCE, FORENSIC IMAGING AND SGBV INVESTIGATION MATERIALS TO THE GAMBIA POLICE FORCE

The Federal Republic of Germany have commissioned the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH to provide technical assistance to the government of the Republic of The Gambia. The GIZ  “Police Programme Africa: Joint German-EU Support to the Gambia Police Force”  is co-financed by The European Union (represented by the European Union Delegation to The Gambia) to provides technical assistance primarily to the Gambia Police Force.

The GIZ Police Programme is being implemented in 9 African countries and 2 regional components. In The Gambia, the Programme strengthens the Gambia Police Force’s human resources management capacity, public relations/community policing strategy, promote  gender equality and a robust internal complaints mechanism to ensure access to trusted and accountable police services for the public. The Programme also aims at strengthening the performance of Gambia Police Force through training, equipment supports and infrastructural enhancement.     

Following a training of 51 police officers on Crime Scene Investigation, Sexual and Gender Based Violence (SGVB) and Forensic Imaging in November 2021, GIZ Police programme is happy today to handover crime scene,forensic imaging as well as sexual and gender-based violence investigations kits to the GPF to help them effectively investigate Forensic and SGBV cases.

The donated materials are worth 1.1 million dalasis and include 147 items some of which are as follows.

Pony Brush, 50g Black Powder, 50g White Powder, Scalpel, Fingerprint Tape 5cm x 9m, Lift cards, Scalpel, Writable Scene Markers, Aprons, Buccal Swabs, Forceps, Blood Collection Kit, Exhibit labels, Adhesive labels, Printed Body Maps, Cameras, Hard drive etc in various quantity.
