Lamin Sima
Ex-Sergeant Lamin Sima, a former officer of the Drug Law Enforcement Agency of The Gambia (DLEAG), Inspector Dawda Kanuteh, a serving officer of DLEAG, and one Lamin Jarju widely known as Elay, an ex-convict, have been arrested and detained at the Anti Crime Unit in Kotu. The suspects are allegedly accused of robbing an 80-year-old British national called Michael Sellen.
The trio have been accused of stealing from a dwelling house in Sanyang Village, Kombo South District of the West Coast Region by robbing the 80-year-old British national.
According to reliable sources, the suspects took away D60,000 from the said British national.
One of the suspects, Inspector Dawda Kanuteh, a serving drug squad officer is a resident of Sukuta and is posted at the Serrekunda Station. The other suspect Lamin Sima, a resident of Brikama was a Sergeant at DLEAG. He was sacked sometime in October 2021 following his earlier arrest by the Anti Crime Unit with four suspected bags of Cannabis in Penyem village, West Coast Region.
Meanwhile, the third suspect, Lamin Jarju, widely known as Elay of Jambanjelly, is an ex-convict. He was convicted of stealing and had served three (3) years and seven (7) years respectively in prison.
When contacted to shed light on this case, the Police spokesperson Superintendent Lamin Njie, said he is currently on tour with the IGP and asked for time to revert back to this reporter.
Meanwhile, Ousman Saidybah the Spokesperson of DLEAG was also contacted for verification and he confirmed that DLEAG has acknowledged receipt of a correspondent from the Anti Crime Unit sometime in May that Inspector Dawda Kanuteh was needed to help the police in their investigation of a particular case but could not comment further.
A senior private lawyer (name withheld) has also informed this reporter that the suspects have been arrested since May. However, he could not confirm if they were granted bail or not.
Another police officer (name withheld) said normally, they are supposed to be granted bail but if they cannot fulfill their bail conditions then they will be in custody until the investigations are over and they will be charged and taken to court.
