A nine-day training focused on the criminal investigation of Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) for 20 officers of the Gambia Police Force at the Khamsys Training Centre in Bijilo ended last Friday, 27th May 2022.

The training was organised by the GIZ Police programme, Police Programme Africa: Joint German-EU Support to the Gambia Police Force in partnership with the German Police Support Team (GPST).

Mr. Sven Stadtrecher, senior project coordinator of Baden Württemberg State Police GPST in the Gambia, expressed similar sentiments and advised the officers to execute their duties effectively.

In her remarks at the end of the training, the Component Manager of the GIZ Police Programme, Dr. Marion Popp congratulated the participants for successfully completing the training. She observed that this training will further enhance the skills and knowledge of the officers in investigating crimes related to gender-based violence.

Corporal Sainey Keita, a participant who delivered the closing remarks on behalf of his colleagues, thanked the organisers of the event. He promised that they will practice the lessons learned in the execution of their duties as investigators of gender-based violence.

AIG Demba Sowe of the Gambia Police Force said the training will further equip the police officers and serves as a morale booster in their work as investigators. He thanked their German police counterparts and organisers of the training.
