Gambia Olympic President decorated with ANOC Award of Merit

Seoul, South Korea, October 19, 2022– The president of Gambia National Olympic Committee Ms Beatrice Allen has been awarded with Association of National Olympic Committees award of merit presented to her on Tuesday by ANOC Acting President.

This award is in recognition of Ms Allen unflinching support to the Olympic movement both in The Gambia and across the globe. President Allen become member of International Olympic Committee starting in 2006. She has served as vice president of the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC), one of the biggest international sports federations, since 2017.

In her illustrated 16 years’ service as IOC Member from 2006 to 2020 and Honorary Member since 2021; Ms Allen served as member of the following Commissions: Women and Sport (2004-), Culture and Olympic Education (2008-), Coordination for the Games of the XXXI Olympiad Rio 2016 (2010-2016), Olympic Education (2015-), Women in Sport (2015-), Public Affairs and Social Development through Sport (2017-), Sustainability and Legacy (2017-), Evaluation for the Youth Olympic Games 2022 (2018), Medical and Scientific (2018-).

Allen became the president of Gambia National Olympic Committee in November 2021, a body she served as 1st vice president for so many years. it’s a great honor to be elected president of the National Olympic Committee of Gambia,” commented Allen, “and I am looking forward to continuing the great work that has been achieved for sport in our country and to inspire women and children to be active and participate in sport, especially with the Youth Olympic Games taking place in Africa in 2026.”

She said this when elected back in November, her dedication and commitment is paying off internationally and this latest accolade is many of those coming.
