Mayor of Richard-Toll Amadou Mame Diop elected as new President of Senegal’s National Assembly

Amadou Mame Diop, mayor of Richard-Toll, located in the Saint Louis region of Senegal has been elected as the new President of the 14th Legislature of Senegal’s National Assembly. Diop’s election was conducted following a heated confrontation between the Parliamentarians (the opposition and the ruling) on Monday, 12th September 2022 in Dakar, Senegal.

Mr. Diop from the ruling coalition’s Benno Bokk Yaakaar obtained 83 votes out of 84. He pledged to work to have a “constructive Assembly” to meet the people’s expectations.

“This new parliamentary term will go down in history, but not only for positive reasons, quite the contrary. History will remember, however, that the mayor of Richard-Toll became the twelfth President of the Assembly in the history of Senegal. Amadou Mame Diop succeeded Moustapha Niasse after a chaotic day in the hemicycle,“ Senegal’s leading online medium Seneweb reports.
